I wouldn't say I'm the kind of pessimistic person that immediately comes to mind: "Curse the world." "I hate all the orphans in the whole world." "There is no possible way that cup is half full." "I'm going to go die in a hole because I have no hope." "We live in a place where no happiness can thrive, it gets sucked out of us," kind of person.
No, I'm more of the person that keeps their expectations lower than low so as to never be disappointed, but it gets kind of depressing in that state of mind.
Perhaps I need to fill my mind with happy thoughts.
J.M Berrie said (through Peter Pan), that you can't fly without happy thoughts.
Now that I think about it, happy thoughts make a lot of things possible: you can fly, you can conjure a patronous, you can get rid of scary or sad thoughts...
Here are some of my happy thoughts:
- Bear Lake: the water, the people, the food, the sound, the memories....
- Volleyball: the floor burns, the bruises, the digs, the blocks, the jump serves, the "good games"...
- Clean teeth: at least 2 min. brushing with not-Crest and flossing each tooth.
- Learning something new and succeeding: driving stick-shift, anatomy, heel clicking, whistling...
- Fall: the season, not the action. It's such a cozy romantic season. Just lovely.
- Witty comments: I wish I were more witty, but I appreciate other people's witt.
- Riding Trax to visit the sis and niece: SLC is great on it's own, but riding Trax through it and just chilling at my sisters all day/night is top notch.
- Driving into New Harmony: it's a comfort driving into a place so familiar that you haven't been in a long time and having it look/smell/sound exactly the same.
- Pretty flowers that don't stink.
- Hand-written letters: they come when you most need them.
- Hugs: except from the creeps...
- Sweatshirts: especially when they smell good...
- Comfortable mattress/sheets/pillows
- Good piano music: want to calm me down, play a song on el piano.
I feel better already.
That was a good exercise.

Ain't that the truth.
